soy-4641-tin-32h
SOY-4641 in a 76 mm tin, 32 hours
Eight capped sessions in a 76 mm tinplate vessel with a CD-8 wick at a 6 % load. The record exists because it is the most ordinary candle anyone can build, and it shows what a correctly sized wick does: the pool reaches the wall at hour three and holds there for the rest of the record without a single centimetre of overspill.

Pool diameter rose from 38 mm at hour one to 55 mm at hour four and then moved less than 4 mm across the remaining four sessions. That plateau is the whole point of the record: a wax that keeps opening up after hour four is not settling, it is overheating, and it will eventually spill.
Consumption of 3.85 g/h over 32 lit hours gives a total burn of roughly 123 g from a 200 g pour. Flame height fell from 48 mm to 41 mm as the fuel level dropped, which is normal: the wick draws less as the melt column shortens.

Failure modes observed
| Trigger | Threshold | Known failure modes |
|---|---|---|
| BURN-DROWN | wick bore → pool under 40 mm at hour 4 | A wick one series small leaves a 40 mm pool in a 76 mm tin and the rim never melts. Step up to CD-10 rather than raising the load. |
| BURN-SCALLOP | ambient draught → air movement above 0.2 m/s | A draught pushes the flame off axis and scallops one side of the melt pool. The record is re-run rather than corrected. |
