Summary

Wax Almanac serves static pages. There is no account system, no comment form, no newsletter and no server-side profile of you. The only data collected is what the advertising and analytics tags described below collect, and you can refuse all of it.

Advertising and Google AdSense

This site is supported by display advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.

Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site; those vendors may place their own cookies subject to their own privacy policies. We do not receive, store or process the personal data those cookies generate.

DoubleClick and the DoubleClick DART cookie

Where ads are served through the DoubleClick platform, the DoubleClick DART cookie is used to serve ads to users based on their visits to this and other sites on the Internet. Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google advertising opt-out page. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website.

Analytics

Aggregate traffic statistics are kept from the web server's own access log: request path, timestamp, response code, referrer and user agent, together with the connecting IP address. These logs exist to detect broken pages and crawler behaviour, are retained for a rolling period, and are not joined to any advertising identifier or used to build a cross-site profile.

If a third-party analytics tag is added later, it will be listed in this section before it goes live.

Your rights under the GDPR

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to be informed about the processing described above, the right of access to any personal data we hold about you, the right to rectification, the right to erasure, the right to restrict processing, the right to object to processing, and the right to data portability. Our lawful basis for the server-log processing is legitimate interest in keeping the site available and unbroken; our basis for advertising cookies is your consent, collected through the consent message shown on your first visit.

You may withdraw consent at any time through that same consent message, and you may lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected]. Because we hold no account data, a request will normally resolve to the server-log entries matching your IP address, which are deleted on the normal retention cycle.

Your rights under the CCPA

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and for what purpose, the right to request deletion of that information, the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising those rights.

We do not sell personal information for money. The sharing of identifiers with advertising partners for cross-context behavioural advertising is treated as a sale or share under the CCPA; you can opt out of it using the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in the consent message, or by disabling personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings.

We do not knowingly collect or sell the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age. Requests may be made to [email protected].

Cookies

Wax Almanac itself sets no cookies for browsing these pages. The admin interface, which is not reachable from the public navigation and is excluded in robots.txt, sets a single session cookie for the operator's own login and is not accessible to visitors.

Data retention and security

Server access logs rotate out on a rolling window. Pages are served over HTTPS. Because there is no database of user records, there is nothing else to breach — which is the design, not an accident.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. Candle making involves open flame and hot wax; the burn-testing material here is written for adults working with appropriate equipment.
