COCO-8300

COCO-8300 coconut wax: the 34 C low melt

coconut · Hydrogenated coconut oil, 92 F melt, flake · 2026-08-24 ·

Hydrogenated coconut oil that clears at 34.5 C, low enough that it softens on a windowsill in July. It is included here mainly as a blend component and as the easiest grade on the site on which to demonstrate a full melt pool.

The short C12 to C14 chains that make coconut wax burn so cleanly also make it soft. A needle penetration of 12 units is the lowest figure on this site, and 6.8 % shrinkage is what stops it pulling away from a glass wall at all.

On its own it is a poor candle. As a 20 to 30 % component in a soy or paraffin base it does something no other grade here does: it drops the clear point by 4 to 6 C while raising oil binding by roughly half, which is the cheapest way to stop a high fragrance load from weeping.

Known failure modes

TriggerThresholdKnown failure modes
COC-SLUMP ambient → above 30 C The candle slumps and the wick leans. Store below 25 C and never leave it in a parked car.
COC-LEAN blend ratio → above 40 % of base A majority-coconut blend will not hold a wick upright at room temperature. Keep it at or below 30 % of the base.
